Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
Volunteer Program Identity & Branding
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Education and Outreach Program set a goal to double their number of volunteers. BLANK was tasked with developing a brand that would unify current museum volunteers, while inspiring others to join the program. After conducting interviews, and observing volunteers, we, along with a team of educational, training and PR consultants, determined a set of identity components unique to the volunteer mind-set. From a respectful logo and interest area icon system, to a uniform and name badge with achievement stickers, we provided the Education and Outreach program with simple tools for motivation and retention. To further improve the volunteer recruitment process, we developed a Web site, marketing pieces, and training materials that aided and supported recruitment growth.
